Welcome to Happy Birth Coach

Supportive - Down to Earth - Evidence Based

Kate Chisnall Happy Birth Coach.jpg

Hi, I’m Kate. I support people who are feeling worried, anxious, scared or overwhelmed about giving birth to have a calmer, more informed and confident birth experience using hypnobirthing techniques, regardless of how you choose to have your baby.

My hypnobirthing (antenatal) masterclass course is inspired and creatively put together providing you with all you need to know to prepare for the arrival of your little one in one succinct course which fits around busy lifestyles. A combination of live, pre-recorded and written content, from a hypnobirthing coach who delivers training to midwives within the NHS, my course gives you another perspective to go alongside NHS advice.

Perhaps you are considering how you will manage the level of pain that labour can bring about and want to better understand the pain relief options available. Or maybe you are hoping to avoid pain relief altogether but are unsure how to achieve this. I can provide you with what you need to feel able to manage pain realistically and feel excited about your birth. Afterall, you are never going to forget the day you gave birth!

"Hypnobirthing what the?"

Now I know what some of you may be thinking, something along the lines of, "hypnobirthing ooo, that's a bit airy fairy! Sounds like you're going to get the pendulums out!"  These were the words of my Dad when I told him about my choice of career. Well, not quite ... simply put, hypnobirthing is complete antenatal birth preparation. Did you know it's steeped in science, is a method used by the likes of Kate Middleton, Fearne Cotton and Angelina Jolie and has a lot to do with how your mind and body work in harmony? Good birth preparation and attentive post-partum support are fundamental to the journey in becoming a parent(s). This along with unpicking your worries is what you are investing in when you choose to book a hypnobirthing course or power hour with me.

How you choose to birth your baby and where is entirely your choice. My role as a coach is to guide you through your options as well as give you information about what reliable evidence and statistics say. I will coach you through tools and techniques to feel more confident in the lead up to and during your labour and birth as well as share information with you and your birth partner about how they are an essential part of your support.

You can find out more about me and how hypnobirthing came into my world below ... but before you do, have a read of this blog post here: Have you heard about this one thing that CAN shorten your labour? (happybirthcoach.co.uk)

You were able to give such fresh perspective through the way that you opened up the space or

me to share. I am so grateful for you listening to me and giving

me the tools.

Hypnobirthing was the thing that transformed me from being a ‘control freak worrier’ about my son’s birth in November 2021, to feeling calm and prepared. I experienced all the feels of morning sickness & feeling queasy for a good 16 weeks in my pregnancy. If this is currently you, I have shared ways I coped with this here: Queasy Does It! Tips for Managing Pregnancy Sickness (happybirthcoach.co.uk)

Having laboured in a birthing pool at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton and narrowly avoided induction of labour as well as an emergency caesarean birth (he was born at 41+6), I have particular interests in these areas of labour & birth. The research I did throughout my own pregnancy and subsequent personal development coaching, focused on increasing confidence and assertiveness skills, lends itself to coaching others through these trickier decisions that can come up.

My passions are the driving force behind my work with pregnant people.

Having experienced my own pregnancy loss Why I have never been so happy to get a negative pregnancy test! (happybirthcoach.co.uk) (trigger warning). As well as previous work in roles supporting children & families navigate their way through and recover from trauma for over a decade, my passion is reducing the chances of expectant parents experiencing trauma and this impacting their postnatal period.

According to The Birth Trauma Association What is birth trauma? — Birth Trauma Association , birth trauma “is not always the sensational or dramatic events that trigger childbirth trauma but other factors such as loss of control, loss of dignity, the hostile attitudes of the people around them, feelings of not being heard or the absence of informed consent to medical procedures [that make birth trauma more likely]”.

One of the ways to reduce these feelings being experienced is through providing evidence-based information in a safe and supportive environment during pregnancy. My overall passion is for you to feel heard, listened to and knowledgeable so you feel equipped for managing anything unexpected that may arise within your experience. My hope is that you go into your labour & birth having considered and planned for how you want to FEEL in your birth rather than focused on the type of birth you have - my hypnobirthing masterclass is designed to coach you through this. The Happy Birth Coach approach prides itself on being down to earth, easy to follow, free of jargon, relaxed and non-judgmental.

My passion has led to me becoming a Somerset Maternity & Neonatal Voice Partnership (MNVP) Equity & Inclusion Representative which involves delivering monthly training about the importance of personalised care to the Midwives at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. This has been the driving force behind me re-writing my hypnobirthing course and changing it to a more flexible and accessible option through it being a hybrid combination course of live, pre recorded & written content. This is a different type of course to what is already out there!

Very organised, professional & useful. My partner also learnt top tips

for how he can best support me during birth.

Is your birth partner feeling sceptical about antenatal classes and their value?
